I worked with a client that wanted a way to create a page with embedded word glosses, both audio and visual, and the client wanted to be able to collect information about which words students clicked and how often.
At first, the client wanted to use tools and plugins within a Moodle course. We investigated a few tools for collecting and storing data that were promising, but excessively complicated given the limited needs and time frame available. We decided that housing the activity on a separate server as a standalone activity would be more efficient and would satisfy the needs of the situation.
There are a few versions of the activity-one with highlighted words, one with text glosses, and one with audio glosses. At the end, users are prompted to enter a unique code that is only known by the student and the researcher, so that the researcher can later analyze the data.
